LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's basketball team had a tough time solving Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' defense in a 52-38 loss on Tuesday night at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

La Verne falls to 3-17 overall and 2-10 in SCIAC play. CMS improves to 18-4 and a perfect 13-0 in the SCIAC.

The Leopards were held to just 32.6 percent shooting from the field and weren't able to utilize the 3-pointers, making just 1-of-3 from long range.

La Verne hung tough against the two-time defending conference champion through most of the first half. But Jai Dungca hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to close the first half and the Athenas claimed the first five points of the second half to take a 28-18 lead and never looked back.

Emily Myers led all players with 14 points and grabbed three rebounds. Shannon Irwin dished out six assists to go along with four points and four steals.

Dungca, Kris Brackmann, Claire Donnelly and Kailee Severt all reached double digits in scoring and Mara Falahee hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Leopards are back in action on Saturday at home against Occidental.
