Pomona-Pitzer outlasts Women's Basketball

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's basketball team used a 23-point third quarter to force double overtime against Pomona-Pitzer but it wasn't enough to take the win as La Verne fell 85-73 after a rough first half on Saturday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.

Bailey Kurahashi hit a bomb from the right wing to force a second overtime but the Sagehens went on a 14-2 run in double overtime to shut the door on a Leopard comeback. Alaina Woo led the charge, picking up eight at the charity stripe and finishing with 17 points.

Emily Myers and Noelle Cobb combined for 16 to lead the Leopards' third quarter charge and Faye Osburn hit a running layup after a broken play at the buzzer to pull the Leopards within 48-46.

The Leopards rode the momentum into the fourth when Osburn again made a big play, picking up the and-one and giving the Leopards their first lead of the game. La Verne pushed to a five-point lead but Keilani Ikehara and Basha Brulee-Wills kept Pomona-Pitzer close.

The Sagehens translated eight Leopard turnovers to 12 points and held Myers scoreless in the first half. Cobb and Brianna Bishop picked up six and seven points respectively, but the Sagehens scored 16 of their 37 in the paint

La Verne returns to action on Tuesday night against Redlands at 7:30 p.m. when they will honor the careers of their three seniors.
