Women's Basketball drops to Redlands on Senior Day

LA VERNE, Calif. — Noelle Cobb scored a game-high 19 points but it wasn't enough in La Verne's 61-48 loss to Redlands on Tuesday night at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

La Verne finishes the season 5-19 overall and 4-12 in the SCIAC. Redlands heads to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament with a 9-7 record in the SCIAC (12-13 overall).

A lopsided third quarter was the difference. The Leopards led 31-27 at halftime but the Bulldogs shot 11-of-18 from the field in the third and they grabbed five of the seven misses to outscore La Verne, 27-10.

The Bulldogs turned ice cold in the fourth, going just 3-for-20 but the Leopards gave up nine offensive rebounds and could not take advantage of the cold shooting.

Cobb grabbed seven rebounds and three assists to go along with her 19 points. Diana Peña hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds and scored four points.

Courtney Chen led the Bulldogs with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists and Jade Cheldelin chipped in 10 points.

The Leopards honored the careers of their seniors Peña, Shannon Irwin, Emily Myers and Alison Takagaki. In a touching moment, Redlands ceded the opening tip to allow La Verne to immediately substitute out Irwin, who suffered a knee injury in the game against Pomona-Pitzer last Saturday and was unable to play tonight. Irwin came out of the game to a standing ovation.
