COSTA MESA, Calif. — Brianna Bishop scored 12 points and Nyjeeiah Ganan had 10 for the La Verne women's basketball team but it wasn't nearly enough in a 90-53 loss to NAIA No. 6 Vanguard on Tuesday.

La Verne falls to 0-8. Vanguard improves to 12-1.

Vanguard's size advantage was too much to overcome for the Leopards. 6-foot-1 Claire Lamunu scored a game-high 33 points on 15-of-22 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds. 6-foot-4 Tania Uluhea had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists off the bench and 6-foot Raechelle Davis posted eight points and 12 rebounds.

The Lions outrebounded La Verne 59-33 and had 18 second chance points to La Verne's zero.

Noelle Cobb added nine points for La Verne and Karli Kato had eight.

The scrappy Leopards kept Vanguard to just four points and forced four turnovers in the game's first five minutes but could not capitalize. The Lions hit the final six shots of the first quarter to grab a 20-8 lead and never looked back.

La Verne wraps up its non-conference slate on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at home against Whitworth.
