Turnovers cost Women's Basketball against Chapman

LA VERNE, Calif. — Bailey Kurahashi scored 17 points off the bench to keep the La Verne women's basketball in the game against first-place Chapman but the the Leopards committed too many mistakes in a 82-64 loss on Saturday afternoon at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

The Leopards (2-18, 2-9 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) committed 20 turnovers on the game which led to 23 points on the other end for the Panthers. On the other hand, Chapman turned the ball over just 10 times.

Despite the turnovers, La Verne did hang in the game until late. The Panthers (12-8, 9-2) led by as many as 17 points early in the third quarter but the Leopards closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to trim the deficit to 58-50 heading into the final period.

Karli Kato scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to get the Leopards within six points but that was as close as it would get. The Panthers responded with six unanswered points to stretch the lead back to double digits and held on for the win.

Faye Osburn scored 11 points and Brianna Bishop also chipped in 11 off the bench.

Chapman's Megan Charles led all players with 23 points. Jaryn Fajardo had 14 points, Lauren Sato added 13 and Lucy Criswell finished with 10.

The Leopards are back in action on Wednesday against Redlands.
