LA VERNE, Calif. — Senior Kayla Chism led the Leopards with 13 points but the University of La Verne women's basketball team had trouble against the bigs from first place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, falling at home to the Athenas 81-61.
Clarissa Perez also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points to go with four rebounds and four assists. Chism added six rebounds and a steal.
The Athenas gave the Leopards difficulty all night, using their distinct height advantage to outrebound La Verne 67-33.
Nyjeeiah Ganan added nine points and four rebounds off the bench.
Senior Kristi Sakamoto scored seven points.
Kate Parrish led Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with 20 points.
Season Impact: The Leopards drop to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in the SCIAC. The Athenas improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
