Perez named First Team All-SCIAC

LA VERNE, Calif. — Junior guard Clarissa Perez has been named First Team All-SCIAC the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Thursday morning. 

Perez had a dominant year in her first season with the Leopards. The Los Angeles native ranks second in the country and led the SCIAC with 24 points per game, five points more than the next best finisher in the conference.

She also posted one of the best single-season points scoring performances in program history finishing with 600 points. The next highest point scorer in the SCIAC finished with 369 points.

"She had an extraordinary season," said La Verne Head Coach Jason Pruitt. "Clarissa's work ethic is what makes her special. As you work, you gain more confidence and that's what helped her have great success on the court this year. What's more important is that Clarissa is a good person and a good teammate."

Perez also led the SCIAC in made field goals with 232. That mark currently places her fourth in the nation. She also showcased her range, knocking down 69 three-pointers (2nd SCIAC) with an average of 2.88 threes per game (2nd SCIAC), placing her in the top-25 nationally in each category.

In addition to her incredible scoring performances, she also led the Leopards in assists per game (3.2) and total assists (81), putting her fourth in the SCIAC in each category. Defensively, she posted the third most steals in the conference and led La Verne with 55.

The junior dominated in nearly every game she played in, finishing in double figures in all but three games, scoring at least 20 points in 17 games, and scoring at least 30 points in eight games. 

Her best single-game performance came in a nonconference game against La Sierra where she dropped 44 points, leading the Leopards to a 90-83 win.
