Leopards Win Fourth Straight

LA VERNE, CA — Aaliyah Pauling led the Leopards with 13 points off the bench and the University of La Verne women's basketball team forced 30 turnovers on its way to an 84-64 win over Pacific Union Friday evening.

Season Impact

The Leopards are on a roll. La Verne has won four-straight games to improve to 4-1 overall. The Pioneers fall to 0-6 overall. 

Pauling went off in the fourth quarter scoring 11 of her 13 points in the period to help the Leopards pull away late. Pauling went 4-5 from the field with a three-pointer and was a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line in the win.

Rachel Gafford finished in double figures for the second time of her career, scoring 10 points, seven in the third quarter alone, to go with three steals and one assist.

Despite turning the ball over 19 times in the first half, the Pioneers stayed close at the break trailing the Leopards just 34-25 at halftime. But La Verne kept the pressure on, forcing 11 more second-half turnovers in what proved to be the difference in the game. The Leopards finished with 30 points off turnovers. 

Fresh off an outstanding defensive performance in the SCIAC opener, Destinee Garcia put together another great defensive outing with three steals. She also totaled eight points, two assists, and a rebound.

Rebecca Horn led the Leopards off the boards with seven rebounds and knocked down a pair of three-pointers. Jasmine Xiong and Casey Kuramoto each scored seven points. Kayla Rubio added six rebounds.

The Pioneers were led by Elissa Root's 21 points.

Next Game

The Leopards back in action on Saturday in a 4 p.m. game against Bethesda.
