
LA VERNE, CA — Jazzlyn Johnson couldn't be stopped, Brittany McDaniel finished with a double-double and the University of La Verne women's basketball team routed the visiting Occidental College Tigers 98-77 Wednesday night.
Season Impact
The Leopards get an important win the SCIAC improving o 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference. With the win, La Verne moves to fourth place in the SCIAC standings. Occidental falls to 6-9 overall and 1-5 in the SCIAC.
Johnson caught fire offensively, shooting 8-11 from the field with three makes from beyond the arc. The sophomore totaled 24 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
McDaniel made a big impact in her first start of the season notching a game-high 11 rebounds to go with 11 points and an assist. The senior made an impact defensively with one block and one steal.

After ending the first quarter with just a 21-19 lead, the Leopards closed out the second quarter with a 20-0 run sparked by a Johnson three-pointer and highlighted by a three-pointer from Rebecca horn to take a 50-29 lead at the break.
The Leopards kept rolling in the third quarter outscoring Occidental 11-3 in the opening two and a half minutes of the period with three-pointers from Alondra Ponce and Jasmine Xiong.
Sixteen different Leopards scored in the win. Dejanee Gill had a standout all-around game, contributing nine points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Ponce finished with eight points, two rebounds, and two steals.
The Tigers were led by Maylene U. Hughes' career-high 41 points.

The Leopards have an important road test this Saturday with the take on the Chapman Panthers at 4 p.m.
