Late Surge By CMS Hurts Leopards

LA VERNE, CA — Dejanee Gill and Jazzlyn Johnson each scored 13 points but a fourth quarter surge by the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas pushed them past the University of La Verne women's basketball team 71-57.

Gill shot 6-8 from the floor with six rebounds and one assist. Johnson added seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Madison Hotchkiss added nine points off three-three pointers. Destinee Garcia grabbed five rebounds with a pair of steals and Alondra Ponce scored eight points with three boards.

Heading into the fourth quarter up 10, the Athenas went on a run early in the period eventually taking an 18 point with 5:40 left to play.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was led by Lindsey Cleary's 15 points.

Season Impact

The Leopards move to 13-7 overall and 6-6 in the SCIAC. The Athenas improve to 16-6 overall and 9-4 in the conference. La Verne currently sits in fifth place in the SCIAC with four conference games left to play. Pomona-Pitzer currently occupies fourth place with a 7-5 SCIAC mark.

Next Game

La Verne returns home this Wednesday with a 7 p.m. tip-off against Cal Lutheran.
