La Verne Alumnus Manuel Lopez will enter his third season as Assistant coach of the University of La Verne Women's Basketball team. Lopez has over 16 years of coaching experience, at both the high school and collegiate level.
As an assistant coach at La Verne, Lopez’ responsibilities have included offensive skill development, recruiting, analytics, scouting, video editing, practice and game planning, as well as instructing youth skills clinics.
Before coaching at La Verne, Lopez was a Head Varsity Basketball Coach at West Covina High School, where he spent six years coaching the Boy’s Basketball team and three years coaching the Girl’s Basketball team. In both instances, Lopez inherited last place teams with two wins and rebuilt the programs into CIF playoff teams that finished in the top three of the San Antonio/Hacienda League.
Lopez received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 2006 and Master’s in Education in 2010. Additionally, Lopez has a Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine.
In addition to coaching, Lopez is a Basketball Trainer for Frohlich Basketball Academy, realtor, and middle school Teacher. While an undergraduate at La Verne, Coach Lopez met his wife Christina, they have been married for five years; they have three children and currently reside in Rancho Cucamonga.
