Women's Golf shows improvement at Cougar Invitational

LAKE SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's golf team showed a marked improvement in the second competitive tournament of the season, shooting a two-round team total of 763 (387-376) at the Cougar Invitational, hosted by Cal St. San Marcos, on Feb. 29-March 1 at St. Mark Club.

It was a 77-stroke improvement from SCIAC No. 1 and every player in the lineup posted a lower score than she did in the first SCIAC tournament.

Kirsten Contreras once again led the Leopards, shooting a total of 163 to finish tied for 27th overall. She carded an 82 on Monday and posted an 81 today.

Morgan Malloy shot a 97 in the opening round but cut 12 strokes in the second round to finish with a toal of 182 (97-85).

Jillian Hughes shot a total of 197 (100-97) and Valerie Lopez posted a total of 221 (108-113) to round out La Verne's lineup.

The Leopards finished eighth as a team.

The Leopards are back in action on March 14-15 at Regals Invitational held at Sunset Hills Counry Club.
