PALM DESERT, Calif. — Kirsten Contreras posted the third best finish among NCAA Division competitors to lead the University of La Verne women's golf team at the Augustana Spring Fling, hosted by Augustana (S.D.), on Friday at the Classic Club.
Contreras carded a 13-over 85 to finish 18th overall in the single-round tournament. Only Tiffany Gu (79) and Sophia Hui (83) of Pomona-Pitzer had better scores than Contreras among Division III players.
Valerie Lopez shot a 119 to to finish second among the Leopards. Jillian Hughes posted a 123 and Nadira Fatah shot a 127 to complete La Verne's scoring lineup.
Emily Israelson of Augustana was the individual winner with a score of 2-over 74 and the Augies won the team championship with a total score of 310.
The Leopards are back in action April 2 at SCIAC No. 2 at South Hills Country Club in West Covina.
