Women's Golf kicks off spring at SCIAC No. 1

SAN DIMAS, Calif. — The La Verne women's golf team teed off its spring season this weekend at SCIAC No. 1, held at San Dimas Canyon Golf Club.

The golfers had to contend with tough pin locations and greens as well as fickle weather and posted high scores across the board.

Morgan Malloy finished 36th overall after shooting a two round total of 205. She shot a 103 in the first round and came back to card a 102 on Sunday.

Valerie Lopez came in with a 116 in the first round and dropped seven strokes on Sunday to post a 109, for a total of 225.

Kirsten Contreras, who has been La Verne's most consistent golfer for the past two years, couldn't complete the first round but shot 88 in the second round for the Leopards' best one-round score of the weekend.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the team title (326-323=649) and the Athenas' Margaret Loncki was the individual winner with a total score of 153 (78-75).

The Leopards are back in action on March 5-6 at Las Vegas Desert Classic.
