Contreras leads Women's Golf at SCIAC Championships

CHINO HILLS, Calif. — The La Verne women's golf team wrapped up the season with a good showing at the 2017 SCIAC Championships, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, on April 23-25 at Los Serranos Golf Club.

All three Leopards—Kirsten Contreras, Valerie Lopez and Morgan Malloy—showed markedly improved play than they did at the beginning of the season.

Contreras played steady golf all three days and finisehd tied for 22nd. She started the tournament with an 86 and posted an 82 on Monday to crack top-20. She wrapped up the tournament with an 86 in the final round and finished with a final tally of 252.

Malloy posted La Verne's low round on the second day, carding a 9-over 81. She bookeneded that performance with a 94 on the first day and an 88 today.

Lopez cut strokes every round. She started the tournament with an 103, carded 98 in the second round and came into the clubhouse today with a 93.

All three players will return next season and compete with a full team, which should improve their play further.
