Gonzalez leads women's golf on day one of SCIACs

PASADENA, CA — The University of La Verne women's golf team opened the 2019 SCIAC Women's Golf Championships Thursday afternoon at Brookside Golf Club.

Alexi Gonzalez led the way for the Leopards, finishing in a tie for 25th after the first round of the tournament. The sophomore finished with birdies on the third on tenth holes to finish the day with a 12-over 84.

Freshman Carly Nicholson finished three strokes behind Gonzales in a tie for 31st place. The Roseville, CA native birdied the ninth and 12th holes and ended the day with a score of 87.

Freshmen Katrina Kasenda (95), Alexandra Hauck (100), and Tina Chaw (108) rounded out the scoring for La Verne. La Verne finished the day in eighth place with a score of 366.

Redlands currently holds the lead in the team standings with a score of 306 and the Bulldogs' Annie Hay leads individually with a plus-one 72.

Chaw has the first tee time of the day tomorrow for La Verne at 8:06 a.m.
