ULV Places Sixth At SCIAC Championships (02-23-2008)
After three days of straight competition, the University of La Verne women's swimming and diving team concluded its season earning sixth place with 196 points at the SCIAC Championships Saturday at Cerritos Aquatic Center.
Competing in five races, freshman Tiffany Martin had the brightest day for the Leopards. Martin went on to earn 14th in the 200-yard IM, clocking 2:19.63 and third in the 100-yard butterfly with 59.64. Martin also placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.07). In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of sophomore Mahina Reyes, junior Lindsay Jones, senior Laura Larsen and Martin timed a 1:45.57 for sixth.
The team of sophomore Megan Moore, Larsen, Martin and Reyes took sixth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:22.72 while also coming in sixth in the 400-yard freestyle (3:50.65). The foursome of Moore, Reyes, Martin and Jones finished sixth after timing a 1:58.81 in the 200-yard medley relay. Reyes also came in 13th in the 100-yard freestyle (56.57).
ULV's relay action continued throughout the day, with the unit of senior Katie Watkins, sophomore Patty Allen, Larsen and Moore posting a fifth place capturing 8:47.12. Watkins went on to swim the 1650-yard freestyle and took 18th in 21:25.85.
Freshman Amanda McCadden led the Leopards in the diving events, capturing sixth in 1-meter with 268.60 points and fourth in 3-meter at 301.50 points. Senior Jennie Briggs placed 19th in 1-meter with 90.40 points.
