The University of La Verne women's soccer team had a two-game
win streak snapped by the Cal Lutheran Regals Wednesday afternoon
in a 2-1 loss at Ben Hines Field.
The Leopards took five shots compared to eight from the Cal
Lutheran, but both teams struggled to get on the board. A scoreless
first half was finally snapped when CLU forward Mayra Virgen found
the back of the net with just 49 seconds left before halftime, and
the Leopards would trail 1-0 after the first period.
Determined to build on their lead in the second half, the Regals
came out firing, taking twice as many shots then the Leopards. But
it was Falisha Ramirez who would score a goal off an assist from
Ashley Vanga to knot the game at a goal apiece. However, Virgen
would put the Regals back on top in the 70th minute. Despite a
strong offensive push in the final minutes, the Leopards would fall
in a 2-1 outcome.
La Verne will travel to Redlands to take on the Bulldogs for one
of the final games of the season. Last time the two teams faced
off, Redlands took a 2-0 victory at Ben Hines Field. The match will
begin at 11 am.
