The first road contest for the University of La Verne women's soccer team resulted in a 5-2 defeat at NAIA opponent The Master's College Tuesday afternoon in Santa Clarita.

La Verne trailed 1-0 at the half before the Lady Mustangs added a pair of goals early in the second frame.

The Leopards would on the board on a goal from Megan Hodgson on an assist from Olga Saldivar at 62:01 to cut the deficit to 3-1.

But the Lady Mustangs would respond quickly as Jasmine Benson scored less than a minute later for her second goal of the game to provide a 4-1 cushion for the home team.  The Master's added another goal at the 72:24 mark for a 5-1 lead.

The Leos found the net with 13 minutes left to play as Katherine Careaga scored with an assist from Alexa Smith.

The Master's (5-0) remained unbeaten on the season and has outscored its opponents 22-4 in its five contests.

La Verne (1-1) will head north this weekend for games against Northwest Conference opponents Willamette (Sept. 6) and Whitman (Sept. 7).
