Leopards Beat Down Bulldogs

The University of La Verne women's soccer team (4-4-1, 1-1-1 SCIAC) improved to a .500 record after beating the University of Redlands Wednesday night at home.

From the very first minute, it was clearly evident that the two teams evenly matched. The quality of play was electric, and elbows were thrown as and the two teams viciously fought for possession of the ball. Neither team was able to break through the others defense in the first half.

At the 77-minute mark the Bulldogs fired a 20-yard shot at junior goalkeeper Delanie Pacheco.  Pacheco managed to get her glove on the ball and deflected the Bulldogs shot over the goal. In rebuttal the Leopards took 4 shots on goal but were stopped by Redlands's goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab.

Into overtime play, La Verne's senior forward Marisella Macias and senior forward Olga Saldivar launched an attack on the Bulldogs.  The resulting goal was ultimately called backwhen the sideline judge deemed Saldivar offside before the play occurred.

Without pause or a second thought, the Leopards continued their onslaught and seized victory off of a 30-yard overtime shot by senior midfielder Christine Camacho clinching a 1-0 victory for the Leopards.

La Verne (4-4-1, 1-1-1 SCIAC) will compete away at Occidental College (3-2-1, 2-1 SCIAC) Saturday, September 28th at 7:00pm.
