La Verne women’s soccer team concedes late lead

CLAREMONT- The University of La Verne women's soccer squad held a second-half lead late into the game, but ultimately ceded a 2-1 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Wednesday evening.

After a scoreless first half, senior Leo striker Marisella Macias fired an unassisted goal past the Athena goalie to capture the lead in the 58th minute. But CMS equalized at the 78 minute-mark and added another score less than a minute later to earn the win.

Macias led the Leopard offense with four shots while junior goalie Delanie Pacheco made seven saves.

La Verne was outshot by a 24-10 margin and held a 1-4 disadvantage in corner kicks.

The Leos will return to action Saturday afternoon at the University of Redlands. Game time is 1 p.m.
