Women's Soccer falls at Pomona-Pitzer, 3-0

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Heather Seman registered double-digit saves for the first time in her career, but the effort wasn't enough in the La Verne women's soccer team's 3-0 loss to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

La Verne falls to 2-9-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer, which has been ranked as high as 21st in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll this season, improves to 7-1-2 and 5-0-2.

The Sagehens held decisive advantage in possession and shot count. But Seman stopped 12 of Pomona-Pitzer's 15 shots on target to keep the game from getting out of hand.The Sagehens out shot the Leopards, 27-5, and outdrew the Leopards in corner kicks, 10-0.

Brianna Lau opened the scoring in the 21st minute, Bria VarnBuhler extended the lead in the 42nd with an assist from Natasha Thornton-Clark and Lau sealed the game on a secondary opportunity off a corner kick in the 79th.

Kindal Cubak led the Leopards offense with two shots on target.

The Leopards will go back on the road on Saturday at Occidental.
