Women's Soccer drops to No. 21 Pomona-Pitzer, 4-1

LA VERNE, Calif. — Casey Moore broke No. 21 Pomona-Pitzer's 948-minute shutout streak with a goal in the 54th minute, but the Leopards couldn't match the Sagehens' firepower in a 4-1 loss in the season finale on Saturday at Ortmayer Stadium.

La Verne finishes the season 3-15-0 overall and 2-12-0 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer improves to 14-1-2 and 12-0-2.

Katie Tao put the Sagehens up early as she caught the Leopards off-guard with a low free kick from 20 yards out in the fourth minute.

The Leopards, as they have done all season, put up a solid defensive wall for the rest of the half and struck nine minutes into the second half. Jessica Hernandez had a couple of shots blocked from around the six-yard box and the second rebound fell to Moore, who pounced on it and drilled it into the net to tie the game at 1-1.

But La Verne lost focus in the next couple minutes as a errant back pass led to an easy goal for Alyssa Kim in the 58th minute. Danika Bethune notched the insurance marker a few minutes later and Sofia Barsher scored the dagger in the 87th minute.

Before the game, the Leopards honored the careers of their five seniors: Heather Seman, Kyndall Taylor, Traci Ramirez, Megan Hodgson and Alexa Smith.
