LA VERNE, Calif. — Jessica Hernandez has been tabbed as the SCIAC women's soccer Athlete of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Hernandez has had an incredible start to her senior season. In La Verne's last game, Hernandez knocked in the golden goal with just 51 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to give the Leopards a 1-0 win over UC Santa Cruz.

This was the second time already this season that Hernandez found the back of the net in overtime. In the opening game of the season, Hernandez scored two goals including the game-winner in the second overtime period to give the Leopards a 2-1 win over St. Catherine.

Hernandez also assisted on Andrea Story's game-winning goal against William Jessup in La Verne's home opener.

"I'm really excited about the preseason Jessica has had," said Head Coach Lauryn Pehanich. "She has stepped up for us in important games and I think that she will continue to be the type of leader we need going into conference."

The Leopards are currently undefeated with a 3-0 overall record.

Next Game: The Leopards next open up SCIAC play Wednesday, September 13 at home against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas at Ortmayer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
