Women's Soccer falls to Regals on Penalty Kick

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's soccer team and the Cal Lutheran Regals fought to a stalemate for most of the game.

But the Leopards were called for a foul in the box in the 67th minute that led to a made penalty kick for the Regals.That would be the only goal of the game, with Cal Lutheran winning 1-0 Wednesday night. 

Season Impact: The Leopards drop their first game of the season, falling to 6-1-2 overall and 3-1-2 in SCIAC play. The Regals improve to 6-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the SCIAC.

The Regals played aggressively on offense throughout the game, finishing with 19 shots with 13 coming in the second half alone.

Leopard keeper Hanien Samara stayed busy in front of the net, racking up eight saves in the match. 

La Verne had to deal with a tough Cal Lutheran defense that limited the Leopards to just six shots in the game. Senior Jessica Hernandez notched three shots in the game with two on goal.

Joss Pereda scored the game-winner for Cal Lutheran.

Next Game: The Leopards return to action Saturday morning when they travel to Redlands to face the Bulldogs at 11 a.m.
