LA VERNE, Calif. — Jessica Hernandez scored her SCIAC leading 8th goal of the season, and the University of La Verne women's soccer team secured a 1-0 win over the visiting Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens Saturday night at Ortmayer Stadium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Leopards move into second place in the SCIAC with four games left in the regular season. La Verne improves to 9-2-3 overall and 5-2-3 in conference play. Cal Lutheran currently sits in first place in the SCIAC with a 7-1-2 conference record.

Pomona-Pitzer falls to 8-5-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the SCIAC.

After the Leopards and Sagehens went into the half at a 0-0 gridlock, La Verne entered the second half on the attack, taking a pair of shots early in the period.

In the 55th minute, Alina Cobian filtered a pass through the Pomona-Pitzer defenders. Hernandez ran onto the ball and tapped it into the corner past the keeper for the lead. Hernandez leads the SCIAC with 18 points.

The goal proved to be the difference maker, with the Leopard defense holding on the rest of the way.

Jasmine Valadez recorded five saves for La Verne.

Next Game: The Leopards next travel to Whittier College on Wednesday, October 18 to take on the Poets at 7 p.m. La Verne edged the Poets 2-1 earlier this season.
