Cobian Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

LA VERNE, Calif. — Alina Cobian has been named Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Cobian earns the honor after scoring a goal in the Leopards' 3-2 win over the Occidental College Tigers and notching an assist in a 1-0 victory of the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens.

"Alina is someone who we can rely on in key situations. We can consistently put her up in set pieces and know that with her timing and aggressiveness she can put the ball where it needs to go," said Head Coach Lauryn Pehanich.

Against the Tigers, Cobian headed in a Hannah Leone corner kick to tie the game 2-2 in the second half. Juna Bouchekara scored the game-winner with 18 seconds left in the game.

On Saturday, Cobian filtered a pass through the Pomona-Pitzer defenders to Jessica Hernandez who drilled the only goal of the game.

This is the second time this season Cobina earns SCIAC Athlete of the Week recognition. She earned the honor early this year after scoring a game-winner over Whittier College.

Hernandez was also named Athlete of the Week earlier this season.

Next Game: The second place Leopards next travel to Whittier College on Wednesday, October 18 to take on the Poets at 7 p.m.
