Women's Soccer Ties Dallas 1-1

LA VERNE, CA — Andrea Story scored the equalizer midway through the second half and the University of La Verne women's soccer team came close to surging ahead several times.

But the University of Dallas Crusaders were able to hold off the Leopards' attack and on hold on for the 1-1 time.

Season Impact: The Leopards open up the regular season with a tie heading into their final nonconference game before entering SCIAC competition.

By the Numbers

The Leopards dominated possession in the game keeping the Crusaders on their half for most of the match. La Verne outshot Dallas 17-4 in the match but just five came on goal.

Scoring Plays

Bekah Gonzalez got the scoring just started after the break. A foul by the Leopards set up Gonzalez with a free kick twelve yards out, and she drilled a shot to the back of the net to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead.

Twenty minutes later, The La Verne backline sent in a long pass to the top of the box to forward Cambria Smith. Smith fought for the ball but it was poked out by a Crusader defender right to a sprinting Andrea Story who launched a shot past the keeper for the equalizer.

Overtime

The Leopards kept control in the overtime period, not allowing Dallas to get a shot off in the extra 20 minutes. La Verne continued attacking, totaling five shots in the second overtime alone but couldn't covert.

Next Game

La Verne has a quick turnaround, continuing nonconference play tomorrow against North Central College at 7 p.m.
