Women's Soccer Ties Whittier on the Road

WHITTIER, CA — Samantha Corney was stellar in front of the net and the University of La Verne women's soccer team held on for a 0-0 tie Saturday night at Whittier.

Corney stayed busy in front of the net for the Leopards. In just the second start of her career, the freshman racked up 15 saves to keep the Poets off the board. She picked up six of her saves in the second half while the Poets unleashed 12 shots.

In the second overtime period, the Poets kept the pressure on unleashing five shots in the 10 minute period. But Corney came through each time, saving all five attempts.

Vivian Ramirez got off a shot for La Verne in the final minute of the first overtime period but Whittier keeper Vanessa Martinez came up with a save. With 30 seconds left in the final overtime period, Vanessa Plascensia had one last attempt for the Leopards but Martinez once again made a save.

Season Impact

The Leopards move to 1-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the SCIAC. Whittier now stands at 1-3-4 and 1-1-2 in conference play.
