SAN MARCOS, CA — The University of La Verne Leopards traveled south Thursday, to take on NCAA Division II Cal State San Marcos, falling to the Cougars on the road 3-0.
The Leopards' defense had a busy night facing 17 shots including 10 on goal. Leopards goalkeeper McKenzie Maggiore had a career-high seven saves on the night, including four saves in the first half of play.
The Cougars of Cal State San Marcos scored early on in the seventh minute on their first shot of the match by Hannah Arcala. The Cougars added two more goals in the second half by Elin Hedstroem and Chloe King in the 48th and 54th minute respectively.
The Leopards could not find the back of the net despite firing seven shots and three on goal throughout the match. Rebecca Fischer, Gizzel Sulca, and Shelbie Mueller each had a shot on goal for the Leopards and Mueller led La Verne with two shots total.
Season Impact
La Verne drops to 0-3 on the season. The Cougars improved to 2-0 on the year.
Next Chance
The Leopards have one more tuneup match before the start of SCIAC play and it comes this Saturday at Caltech for a 10:00 a.m. match.
