Leopards And Tigers Tie Each Other Up At Ortmayer Stadium

La Verne, CA - The University of La Verne women's soccer team hosted the Occidental Tigers in a weekend SCIAC match-up. The Tigers came into the game yet to have won a conference game but had been involved in three previous games that ended in a tie. This fact seemed to be a foreshadowing of the outcome of the matchup with the Leopards.

The first half of action saw the Leopards go scoreless on two shots while giving up one goal to Occidental, leading to a halftime score of 1-0 in favor of Occidental. The defensive intensity of both teams was reflected in the physical play and the various yellow and red cards given to both teams.

The second half started in the same manner as the first half ended, extremely intense and highly competitive. Alyssa Moran scored the Leopards first goal of the game in the second half at the 51:14 mark of play. Less than forty seconds later Occidental would score another goal, breaking the tie and giving Oxy a 2-1 lead for nearly the next thirty minutes of play. La Verne would tie the game when Shelbie Mueller scored a goal at the 80:01 mark in the half. The next ten minutes of action was a display of true grit and heart as the Leopards fought to secure the game at home. The Leopards took eight shots in the half but time would expire with the game tied at 2 apiece. The tie was the first of the season for La Verne and the fourth of the season for Occidental.

The Leopards return to action on October 5th at Redlands. The game starts at 7:00 PM.
