CLAREMONT – The No. 14 University of La Verne tennis team took a 2-1 lead after doubles and won four singles matches to earn a 6-3 win over No. 18 Tufts on Tuesday at the Claremont Club.
The Leopards improve to 8-1 on the year.
In the closest singles match of the afternoon, Andrea Madrigal pulled out a tough three-setter against Samantha Gann in the No. 1 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Bridget Etchegaray clinched the match at No. 5, beating Jacqueline Baum, 7-6(3), 6-1.
Madrigal and Etchegaray also notched a doubles win as a pair, beating Conner Calabro and Chelsea Hayashi, 8-6.
Jeanette Losaria (6-2, 6-3) and Laina Matsuda (6-0, 6-4) both got singles wins for La Verne. The duo also claimed the No. 1 doubles match with a 8-1 win over Shelci Bowman and Alexa Meltzer.
Tufts won singles points at the Nos. 4 and 6, and got a doubles win at No. 3.
The Leopards return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against No. 30 Denison.
