Tennis competes at USTA/ITA Regional Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Janae Chinn notched wins in both the singles draw and the doubles draw to highlight the University of La Verne tennis team's first competition of the 2015-16 season at the USTA/ITA West Regional Championships, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer, on Oct. 2-4.

Chinn blanked Christine Wu of Mills, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round of the singles competition before losing to Kyla Scott of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round. The sophomore dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision to Sarah Seeman of Redlands in the second round of consolation singles.

In the doubles bracket, Chinn teamed up with newcomer Savannah Fisher and the duo claimed an 8-4 win over Whittier's Ruth Kaplan and Tiffany Livoti. Chinn and Fisher then fell to Grace Hruska and Joy Kim of Pomona-Pitzer in the second round and dropped Gabrielle Etchegaray and Meagan Zamilpa of Whittier.

A number of freshman saw their first college action. Madison Madewell, Savanah Goode and Margaux San Nicholas all notched their first collegiate wins in the first round of consolation singles.

Madewell and San Nicholas teamed up in the doubles competition and beat Roxana Farmer and Gwendolynn Fernstrom of Mill, 8-1, in the first consolation round.

The Leopards kick off their spring season on Jan. 30 at UC Santa Cruz.
