No. 23 Tennis falls to Christopher Newport

CLAREMONT, Calif. — No. 23 La Verne tennis team could not gain any momentum in a 7-2 loss to Christopher Newport on Sunday afternoon at the Claremont Club.

Savanah Goode and Janae Chinn picked up a pair of wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, but the Leopards had trouble everywhere else. Goode beat Katie Carlson, 6-2, 6-4, and Chinn topped Kate Huck, 6-2, 7-5.

McKinney Harwood and Carlson got Christopher Newport rolling with an 8-2 win over Bridget Echegaray and Goode at No. 1 doubles, and the Captains won the second and third doubles flights by scores of 8-3.

Outside of Goode and Chinn, no Leopard managed to take a set in her singles match.

The Leopards return to action on Wednesday at home against Mary Washington.
