Tennis falls at No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 9-0

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne tennis team lost to No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 9-0, on Thursday evening at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

La Verne falls to 4-13 overall and 2-4 in the SCIAC. CMS improves to 16-4 and 7-1.

The Athenas got a quick sweep of doubles and cruised through the singles portion to claim a decisive win.

The 2015 doubles runner-up duo of Caroline Ward and Katie Kuosman topped La Verne's Bridget Etchegaray and Janae Chinn, 8-1, to start the match. Kyla Scott and Jessie Cruz beat Savanah Goode and Shenelle Trujillo, 8-1, at No. 2 and Lindsay Brown and Bria Smith defeated Areli Martinez and Madison Madewell, 8-2, at No. 3.

Etchegaray put up a fight at No. 1 singles against Ward and grabbed a lead in the second set, but eventually fell, 6-2, 6-3.

The Leopards are back in action on Saturday at Caltech.
