Another Race, Another Record for Moreno

Another Race, Another Record for Moreno

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Lenore Moreno did it again.

The senior, who won the 5,000 meters at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in a record-breaking fashion in March, shattered her own school- and SCIAC records in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Track and Field Invitational hosted by the Stanford University.

Competing in the event for the first time this season, Moreno finished second in section two with a time of 33:49.04. Her mark is the third fastest in Division III history and puts her atop the list of all NCAA Division III runners in the event this season. The second fastest runner, Sophie Goobic of Heidelberg (Ohio), is nearly two minutes behind (35:38.71).

The lone Division III entrant in the event, Moreno placed 19th overall in a field of 75 elite upper-division and professional runners.

Moreno has shown a knack for rising to the occasion this season. In addition to the national championship, the West Covina native posted the then-fastest D-III seasonal best in the indoor 5,000m at the Husky Classic in February to qualify for the championship meet.

With Friday's performance in the books, Moreno's sights are set squarely on the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship to be held at Delaware, Ohio on May 22-24. Moreno will look to better her performance from last year's championship meet, where she placed eighth in the 10,000m, which was still good enough for All-America honors.
