CLAREMONT, Calif. — Bryan Hayes finished in fifth place in the 3000 meters to highlight the University of La Verne men's track and field team's performance at the Collegiate All-Comers meet, hosted by Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

Hayes finished the race in 8 minutes, 42.18 seconds among 59 runners. It was good for third among NCAA Division III runners, behind Joshua Sealand of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Benjamin Girodias of Pomona-Pitzer.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Robert Oshodin, Khayree Jones, Josh Francis and Nick Aguilarclaimed the race with a time of 43.53 seconds. The Leopards beat out four Division III teams and NAIA Concordia (Calif.).

Josh Francis recorded a time of 11.21 seconds in the 100 meters and Oshodin clocked a 22.67 in the 200.

Chris Gura and Andrew Carrasco had good days in the field events. Gura and Carrasoco finished third (45 feet, 0.25 inches) and seventh (41-06.00), respectively. The duo went 2-3 in the hammer throw finishing behind Alex Rich of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Carrasco threw a 153-10 and Gura registered a 145-11.

Mele Halalilo, who is in her first year in the La Verne track and field program, was dominant in the shot put and javelin. The junior dual-sport athlete got second in the shot put with a toss of 40-04.00 and finished third in the javelin with a throw of 110-02. She added an eighth place finish in the discus with a throw of 114-02 (34.79m).

Angelyn Caldwell had a clearance of 4-11.00 in the high jump to take eighth in the event and Taylor Schulze vaulted 9-05.25 in the pole vault.

On the track, Andrea Ramirez shined with an 11th place finish in the 3000 meters, crossing the line at 10:18.49.

The Leopards return to action next Saturday at Rossi Relays, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
