LOS ANGELES — The University of La Verne women's track and field team claimed nine events at SCIAC Multi-Dual 3, hosted by Occidental, to sweep Occidental (114-27), Pomona-Pitzer (82-81) and Redlands (89.50-72.50) on Saturday.
The Leopards dominated the throwing events and rode depth in the running events to edge the Sagehens. La Verne won three of four throwing events and had a handful of top three finishes in the running events.
Tiahna Gillon won the 100 meters with a time of 12.15 seconds, the seventh fastest time in the country so far this season. Gillon also notched second-place finish in the 200 at 25.68.
Kimmy Kabluyen and Alexa Smith went 1-2 in the 400 meters with Kabluyen coming in under a minute at 58.86 and Smith clocking 1 minute, 0.51 seconds.
Gillon, Kabluyen and Smith combined with Taelor Roby to come in first in the 4x100 relay at 48.22. Sarah Chang took Roby's spot in the 4x400 relay and the Leopards won that event with a time of 4:02.10.
Andrea Ramirez held down the distance events, recording a pair of second-place finishes in the 800 (2:20.56) and the 1500 (4:47.59).
Dual-sport athlete Mele Halalilo continued to impress in the throws. She won the shot put with a toss of 12.31 meters (40 feet, 4.75 inches) and took second in the discus with a throw of 36.55 meters (119-11).
Jaclyn Castleberry was also impressive, winning the hammer with a toss of 36.94 meters (121-02) and finishing second behind Halalilo in the shot put at 11.39 meters (37-04.50).
Christiana Coughlin claimed the javelin with a throw of 36.37 meters (119-04) and Taylor Schulze won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.32 meters (10-10.75).
The Leopards are back in action next Friday at Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific.
