Track & Field competes at Oxy Distance Carnival

LOS ANGELES — A select group of La Verne track and field athletes competed at the annual Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic on Friday at Bill Henry Track.

Mario Martinez had a solid showing in his first 10,000 meter run, crossing the finish line at 33 minutes, 24.45 seconds to finish 14th overall.

Melissa Cerrillos raced her first steeplechase (3000m) event of her career and finished fourth with a time of 11:45.81.

Andrea Ramirez ran the women's 5,000 meters in 20:50.75.

David Sincock finished 49th in the men's 1,500 meters at 4:08.96 and was 173rd in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:03.30.

Antonio Rivera (15:59.33, 166th), Samuel Johnny (16:49.09, 219th), Damon Gomez (17:05.36, 233rd) and JT Turek (17:46.98, 244th) also competed in the 5,000 meters.

Nick Gonsalves and Robert Oshodin competed in the men's 100 meter dash. Gonsalves finished fourth at 11.23 and Oshodin was right behind in fifth at 11.31.
