Cerrillos, Moura-Hayes post personal records at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Melissa Cerrillos posted a personal record in the 800 meters and Gaby Moura-Hayes beat her personal mark in the hammer throw to highlight the women's competition for the University of La Verne women's track and field team at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.

Melissa Cerrillos kept improving and posted a personal record time of 2:19.27 in the women's 800 meters. The freshman, who has raced the event four times this season, has run faster every race.

Rachael Dela Cruz made her season debuts in the 800 meters and the 1500 meters. She finished the 800 in 2:36.42 and the 1500 with a time of 5:15.93.

Kimmy Kabluyen finished eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 58.49.

On the field, Gaby Moura-Hayes broke her personal record in the hammer throw with a toss of 37.30 meters (122 feet, 4 inches) and Taylor Schulze cleared a season-best 3.40 meters (11-01.75) in the pole vault.

The Leopards are back in action on Saturday as it hosts the third SCIAC Multi Dual meet of the season.
