Twelve Leopards named All-Region in track and field

NEW ORLEANS — The University of La Verne track and field teams had 10 men and two women named to the 2016 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-West Region Team on Monday.

Joshua Francis earned three nods with his efforts in the 200 meters, 400 meters and 4x100 relay.

Nick Gonsalves, Robert Oshodin and Austin Warrington, all of whom are part of the relay team, garnered recognition as well.

Jacob Lopez and Kyle Ambat each won an award in the triple jump. Andrew Carrasco and Chris Gura took home awards for their hammer throws.

On the women's side, Mele Halalilo was recognized for her performance in the discus and Kimmy Kabluyen earned an award for her 400m.

To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

Francis, Gonsalves, Oshodon, Warrington, Lopez and Carrasco will participate in the NCAA National Championships on May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa.
