Cerrillos takes mile at Westmont meet

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Melissa Cerrillos won the mile run at the Westmont On Your Marks meet to lead the women's track and field team on Saturday.

The sophomore crossed the finish line with a time of 5 minutes, 21.94 seconds, ahead of tough competition from NAIA Concordia (Calif.), Westmont and Vanguard.

The Leopards added a trio of second-place finishes in the field events. Ebony Turner cleared 1.45 meters (4 feet, 9 inches) in the high jump and Catalina Lee Kim leaped 10.20m (33-05.75) in the triple jump. Freshman Selaima Tamotuu recorded a toss of 30.86m (101-03) in the discus throw.

2015 All-American Tiahna Gillon went 28.15 in the 200 meters to finish seventh in the event and came in fifth in the 100 meters with a tie of 13.46. Lee Kim finished just behind Gillon in the 100 meters at 13.74.

The Leopards are back in action this Friday and Saturday at Mountain T's Indoor Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona.
