Women's Track & Field competes at PLNU Invitational

SSAN DIEGO — The La Verne women's track and field team posted a handful of personal records at the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational on Saturday.

Jasmine Williams posted a personal best mark in the discus and finished fourth overall in the event with a throw of 31.88 meters (104 feet, 7 inches). She finished 11th in the hammer throw with a heave of 28.35m (93-00).

Melissa Cerrillos competed in the 5000 meters for the first time in her career and finished second, crossing the finish line at 18 minutes, 5.18 seconds.

Jade Griffin finished 15th in the 200 meters with a personal record time of 26.46.

Catherina Posada, a dual-sport athlete who also plays soccer, raced the 800 meters and the 1500 meters for the first time and posted 2:28.07 and 5:11.31, respectively.

Alexandra Cormier finished ninth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.05 and 18th in the 400m hurdles at 1:17.23, both personal records.

The 4x100m relay team of Griffin, Catalina Lee Kim, Dreama Gonzales and Tiahna Gillon finished eighth overall with a time of 50.05 and the 4x400m quartet of Carmen Sandoval, Jessica Portillo, Griffin and Gillon came in 10th with a time of 4:08.71.

The Leopards are back in action next week at SCIAC Multi-Dual hosted by Redlands.
