Women's Track and Field falls to CMS, Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. — Catalina Lee Kim broke her personal record in the 100 meter hurdles while adding a win in the triple jump and Carmen Sandoval won the 400m hurdles to highlight the second SCIAC Multi-Dual for the La Verne women's track and field team. 

Lee Kim, who had set a personal record in the 100m hurdles at the Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic on March 10, dropped another couple ticks to cross the finishline at 15.05 seconds and finished behind only the two-time NCAA national championship qualifier Alison Smith of Redlands.

Lee Kim won the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.03 meters (36 feet, 2.25 inches).

Sandoval notched her first indivdual win of the season in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:06.01. Jessica Portillo finished right behind Sandoval in second place with a personal record time of 1:08.52.

Melissa Cerrillos recorded a pair of top-3 finishes. The sophomore finshed second in the 800m with a time of 2:20.01 and came in third in the 1500m at 4:56.02.

Sandoval, Portillo, Cerrillos combined with Tiahna Gillon to finish second in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:09.39. 

Gillon also added a pair of fourth place finishes in the 100m (12.85) and 200m (26.42).

The Leopards are back in action on Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
