Women's Track and Field competes at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Carmen Sandoval set a new personal record in the 400 meters to highlight the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational for the La Verne women's track and field team on Saturday.

Sandoval, whose previous best mark in the event was 1:03.14, obliterated that mark by more than four seconds to come in under a minute for the first time in her career. She crossed the finish line in 58.88 and finished 15th overall.

Taylor Schulze finished ninth overall in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.40 meters.

Melissa Cerrillos finished 18th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.31, falling just shy of her personal record.

Catalina Lee Kim finished the 100 meter hurdles in 15.96 to finished 25th. Jessica Portillo set a new personal record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.16 and finished 23rd.

Ebony Turner finished 11th in the high jump with a leap of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) and fell just shy of clearing 1.60m (5-05), which would've been a personal record.

A select group of Leopards are in action on Friday at Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State.
