CLAREMONT, Calif. — Catalina Lee Kim broke the La Verne record in the 100 meter hurdles and won a total of three events at the final SCIAC Multi-Dual meet of the season, hosted by Whittier, on Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer's Strehle Track.
Lee Kim won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.88 seconds, slashing .09 seconds off the previous record set by La Verne Hall of Famer Liz Lucsko in 2002.
It was the second new program record set this week, after Melissa Cerrillos set a new mark in the 3000m steeplechase at Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday.
Lee Kim also won the triple jump with a new personal record mark of 11.34m (37 feet, 2.50 inches) and ran the second leg of the winning 4x100m relay team that crossed the finish line at 49.65.
Freshman sprinter Jade Griffin had a big day as well, winning the 100 meters and the 200 meters in addition to running the anchor leg of the 4x100m relay. She posted a time of 12.53 (wind-aided) in the 100m and set a new personal record in the 200m with a time of 26.27.
Cerrillos won the 800m in arguably the most thrilling race of the day, edging Pomona-Pitzer All-American Maya Weigel by one-one hundredth of a second. Cerrillos crossed the finish line at 2:18.95 and Weigel came in at 2:18.96.
Ebony Turner won the high jump with a leap of 1.50m (4-11.00) and Taylor Schulze easily won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.20m (10-06.00).
The Leopards will get two weeks off before the SCIAC Championships, hosted by Chapman at Strehle Track, on April 28-29.
