Leopards turn in top performances at Point Loma

SAN DIEGO — Anthony Hamilton won the high jump and the University of La Verne track and field team turned 10 top-25 national performances at the Point Loma Invitational on Saturday.

"We had a great day with lots of personal records and season bests," said Head Coach Kevin Reid. "We have good representation of the Leos up and down the NCAA Division III list."

Hamilton set a personal record in the high jump winning the event with a leap of 1.93 meters, placing him 16th nationally.

Sprinter Joshua Francis took third in the 100m dash, crossing the line with the seventh-best time in the nation at 10.81. 

The Leopards' 4x100m relay team of Trevor Welch, Anthony Carter, Amir Bishop, and Francis took third with a time 42.52, placing them 16th nationally.

In the men's field events, Kyle Ambat took second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.73m to put him 13th nationally. T.J. Randall took third in the shot put (14.42m) and Carter took fourth in the long jump (6.53m) both marks are in the top-25 nationally.

On the women's side, Melissa Cerrillos took fourth in the 800m crossing the finish line at 2:19.43. Her time ranks her 16th in Division III.

Jade Griffin turned in two national top-25 finishes with a fifth-place finish in the 200m (25.93) and a seventh-place finish in the 400m (59.91).

Ebony Turner took fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.57m to put her in the top-20 in the nation.

Irene Castillo took third in the hammer throw with a distance of 34.72m.
