Cerrillos Leads Women's Track and Field on Day 1 of SCIACs

REDLANDS, Calif. — Melissa Cerrillos finished with All-SCIAC honors for the third year in a row in the 3000m steeplechase on day one of the 2018 SCIAC Championships.

Cerrillos, the La Verne record holder in the event, took second crossing with a time of 11:19.14 to finish on the podium for the third straight season. Cerrillos will also compete in the 800m finals after finishing with a time of 2:23.05 in the prelims. 

Catalina Lee Kim took sixth in the long jump, finishing with a distance of 17-08.00. Lee Kim also qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles after finishing with a time of 14.50 in the prelims, good enough to seed her second.

All track events with the exception of the steeplechase and the 10,000m were preliminaries for finals on Saturday.

Jade Griffin will also enter the Saturday's finals as a no. 2 seed. The sophomore finished the 400m preliminaries with a time of 59.35. She will also compete in the 200m dash after finishing with the fourth fastest time in the prelims, crossing the line at 25.57.

The Leopards continue SCIAC action Saturday with field events beginning at 4 p.m. and track events starting at 5:30 p.m.
