Cerrillos sets school record at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

CLAREMONT, CA — Melissa Cerrillos set a school record in the 3000m steeplechase and the University of La Verne women's track and field team finished the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational with nine personal and season bests.

Cerrillos led the way for the Leopards in the steeplechase finishing as the top DIII athlete in the race. The senior and two-time SCIAC Champion in the steeplechase set the new La Verne record in the event at 10:54.62, breaking her old program record of 10:55.51 she set in 2017. Cerrillos' time places her fifth in the nation.

Elizabeth Prevedello, who recently set the La Verne record in the heptathlon, had a big meet for the Leopards. She ran a personal best in the 200m with a time of 25.76, putting her in the top-50 nationally. The junior also excelled in the high jump with a leap of 5-3, the eighth best mark in school history and the 27th best in DIII.

Jade Griffin continued to lead the Leopards in the sprints. The junior finished as the top DIII runner in the 400m with a personal record time of 57.53. The time places her fourth in the La Verne record books and 14th nationally.

Freshman Marissa Perez ran a personal best in the 100m dash with a time of 13.72. Mackenzie Bell posted a season best in the 800m run at 2:46.13. 

Ashley Garnica added personal record time of 5:09.85 in the 1500m run. Catherina Posada and Bianca Pages also each added personal bests in the 1500m at 5:13.68 and 5:22.96 respectively.

Reiko Fujimoto posted a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase at 12:55.72.

Next Meet

The Leopards get back to SCIAC competition this Saturday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at Whittier College.
