Track and Field Heads to North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Eight athletes will represent the University of La Verne track and field teams this weekend in North Carolina.

The Leopards will compete at JDL DMR Invitational on the same track that the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held next month. This will be one of the final attempts for the Leopards to qualify for the indoor championships.

The group is led by senior Jade Griffin who will compete in the 200m dash. Griffin currently ranks 17th in NCAA DIII with a time 25.83 that she posted earlier this season at Northern Arizona.

La Verne record holder Zachary Reid will look to beat his program-best time of 8.59 in the 60m hurdles. Junior Matthew Salas, fresh off winning the 800m run at the Bruin/Pilot Indoor Meet will look to shave down some time in his primary event. Salas' fastest time this season in the event was at the Portland meet clocking in at 1:55.58.

Freshman Alexander Medina will represent the Leopards in the distance events and compete in the 3000m. Both Patrick Cornwell and Terrence Robinson will compete in a pair of events. Cornwell will race in the 200m and 400m while Robinson will take part in the 60m and 200m.

Anthony Carter will be the lone Leopard competing in a field event. The senior will compete in the long jump and will run in the 60m dash. Christian Mora will join Salas in the 800m run.
